Speedometer/Cruise Problem

Lately my speedometer has been goin a little wacky. It has always been 5 mph slow but recently its starting to go on the fritz. If I drive constantly at say 65, it will drop down to 50ish every once in a while and jump back up. There has always been a little wobble in it but now its gettin ridiculous. Also since it has starting doing that, when I set the cruise, my truck constantly lurches. I figured it had something to do with that. Could it be a broken tooth on my speedo drive? If so where is it located. Also I bent the exciter ring on the rear diff if that makes a difference but i thought thats only for rear abs.

The exciter ring IS your speedo drive. The ABS sensor doubles as the vehicle speed sensor. If the ring is FUBAR, the speedo and cruise control will not work properly. If you have an auto tranny, it will likely act weirdly as well.

'92-96 use the VSS on the rear diff for the odometer, speedo, cruise control, ABS, and the shifting of the E4OD/4R70w.

Oh, well in that case, where can I get a new one? I noticed they don't have them on the broncograveyard.com

29 when I bought mine from ford about 3 years ago.

well its gonna suck pulling the 3rd member again and the ring gear. O well guess i shouldn't have pryed on it. Oh, how does it come off, there aren't bolts or anything

Getting the old one off is not an issue if you're going to pitch it anyway. Mine succumbed to a hammer and screwdriver.

The replacement goes on very easily if you heat it up to 350-400°F in the oven and drop it in place while still hot.
