Power Steering Pump 'alignment' (any hints?)

I installed a 'junkyard' power steering pump..

My 86 F-150 4x4 (300 six) threw a belt a few weeks ago..

...I noticed the pulley was warped BADLY when I changed the belt and it wouldn't stay on..

The bolts into the pump "adjuster" were frozen.. When I bought it, it didn't have a dipstick, so I was always 'guessing' on the fluid level.. So a $35 replacement pump and brackets seemed like a great idea.. Now I'm wondering...

The pump and brackets do not appear different in ANY way from what was there.. I just seem to be having a helluva time getting the pulley to line up correctly with the crank.. It seems to be 'pulled back' some... Initially, I'd estimate it was about a half an inch back to far.. I attempted yesterday to 'shim' the pump brackets with a few washers, it appears better-- but it's still fliping the belt over..

I had a friend who used to refer to these issues as "fuel delivery problems..."

...he'd say, yup, 5 gallons of gas and a match'll fix this!

But since that's NOT AN OPTION, I need to come up with another plan!
