Question Getting better gas mileage

I'm sure there have been many different threads on getting better gas mileage, but here is another one. I have a 1991 5.0 that gets about 8mpg maybe less ...i don't bother to try to figure it out . What ways can i improve this? It's my back up truck right now, due to some major problems with my ranger, and might just become my daily driver. I can't afford to drive it like this, especially every day. Any suggestions?

Try slowing down first on the freeway.

Get normal sized tires if you don't have them.

Plugs/Wires/Cap/Rotor/O2 Sensor/Fuel Filter/Etc

Don't stand on the accelerator all the time if you do.

That's really about it.

Oh....keep off the gas....that's it! No wonder why i get such bad gas mileage lol I don't think that's all though. What about clogged converters? I think they are a little plugged cuz the tail pipes are a little sooty and the dual exhaust is quiet. It's probably burning a little rich because of that too maybe? I'll check the plugs some time also and cap and rotor. The o2 sensor...now that's a thing i should definately replace...on both my trucks. How could i check my cats to see if they are plugged?

Converters don't go bad unless something acts upon them.

Stock exhaust is VERY restrictive up there and you can run without a muffler and hardly have any sound out the backside.
