I'm looking at getting a HO 5.0L for my 93 f-150. I keep hearing that I should put in a different cam. What cam should I get? Where is the best place to get it? Thanks

It would help if you told us what you want to do with your truck. Towing, racing, mudding and rock-climbing all reqiure very different camshafts as do automatic vs. manual trannies and the not so minor issue of whether or not you have to remain smog-compliant.

Cams can be had from Isky, Crane, Crower, CompCams, FRPP, and probably a dozen other sources. The best place to buy? Summit or Jeg's for many items, manufacturer direct for others.

Sorry for the lack of info. I have the e4od. I pull a car trailer. I would like to also keep the smog stuff on the truck.

If your block is a roller cam capable block, I'd take a look at converting it to a roller cam and using the Crane 2020, or whatever they're now calling it. It's certified 50 states smog legal and adds a potfull of low to midrange power. It won't make it any slower at the strip either

Some 302 are roller blocks, some are roller cam, and some are roller ready...

I have a roller block in my F150, the lil spider tray nubs are there just not drilled nor are they tapped from Ford. Odd eh? Some '93 351W blocks are roller cam ready and have that spider tray stuff ready to go, all you need to go is purchase it... while lastly some blocks have a full roller cam installed OE.

Depending on where you're at, I have a 302 HO motor I don't need anymore. Came from a '94 GT... plans changed and it's just hanging out on the stand.

I seriously doubt it, you could get the Comp retrofit lifters that don't need that spider setup so you can use the existing block... they have some that are hyd and some solid. You want hyd!

Those can only be installed with the heads off due to their height, so if you plan a heads/cam swap it'll be a good time to do so at once. Check out some mild ported Twisted Wedge, they flow near how a 180cc head does and also the Canfield. AFRs are great but rarely can a deal be found on them.

The stock HO camshaft won't work well in a tow vehicle, so you're going to need to replace it for sure. The stock HO input is nothing to brag about either, especially at low revs. Check out the Edelbrock truck intake. If you're going to go that far, better heads are in order. The cheapest head improvement is to find a set of the old 3-line GT40s at a swap meet. Aluminum heads are nice, but they don't help much on a truck.

If you end up with improved heads and an improved intake, you may want more cam, take a look at the Crane 2030. Of course then you'll need 24# injectors....

This just never ends.

What type of HP and torque will be made from a 91 5.0L HO with a crane 2020 cam and maybe a set of headers? I know that I should put heads and bigger injectors, but I can't afford that now. Maybe later. Thanks

That's a roller cam the 2020, if your truck is a 1993 I don't believe you have a roller cam in there. A mild cam will make a big difference alone.

For sure do headers, that stock exhaust is junk.

Here's what I'd do with those heads if they're out of reach currently. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=203160 Any stock casting is junk, even the aluminum ones will perform a lot better except for a few that just aren't that much better like the GT40X or the 1.9" Edelbrock Performers. Small port heads are where it's at for a 302 for torque production at low revs and top end HP. Canfield 170s, TFS, or AFR-165s, excellent performance.

Stock 19lbs/hr injectors will take you to just over 300hp... with home ported stock heads and a mild cam you'll be around 240-250hp I'd say.

I'm getting a 5.0 HO from a 91 mustang and putting in a crane 2020 cam. And putting that into a 93 f150. I like HP that you said. How about the torque? Do you know what that will be? Thanks
