rear driveline won't slip onto splines ('96 F150 2WD)

Just finished replacing a U joint on my '96 F150 2WD. Only problem now is that I can't get the back driveline to slip over the splines on the front driveline :-( I noticed that it was difficult to remove but thought it might just be a vacuum. Maybe not!

I looked at the splines and there is some miminal damage to the plastic covering at the end. My next (planned) remedy will be to take a file and clean up the gouges in the plastic

Is there anyone out there that has had a similar problem putting the driveline back in their F150????? Sure would apprciate some ideas/suggestions. THX! Randall

A lot of the time the splines will be keyed so they only go together in one position. check for a blind spline ir one that isn't cut out like the rest and match it up with the one on the opposite side that is actually missing a spline.
