Towing Capacity

Towing Capacity
Guys,
I have an 87 F150 6cyl, manual transmission and I'd like to use it for some moderate towing.
I just found a small boat, about 2300 pounds including the trailer.
What is the capacity of the bumper hitch and if that's not sufficient and I add a frame hitch, what is the overall towing capacity of the truck?
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

I have never seen a vehicle rated to tow less than 2,000 lbs except for those that state 'Towing not recommended'.
Obviously, your truck is a vehicle rated to tow some amount. At this point in it's age it really doesn't matter what the manufacturer recommended back in 1987, 2,300 lbs would fall within the orginal limits.
You could tow 2300 on the bumper but, I would suggest installing a new frame hitch (around $100) only because the hardware connecting the bumper to the truck is 18 years old.
