ignition locked..

hey all, just got a quick question....on my '96 f150xl when i try to start it (happens once in a while) the ignition locks up, and sometimes, it flat out doesnt start...this is weird, because its only got 47,000 miles on it, and sat in a garage for the past 6 years...anyone know what could be the problem?

also, i think my truck was made in canada if it helps any (running lights come on whenever i run it, and there was rusty brake lines, and gas lines that i had to replace)

If it is just the key doesn't turn, replace the ignition key cylinder. Turn the key to run and look under the cylinder and there is a small hole just under the key. The other three are screws. Put a small screwdriver in the hole and there is a pin you push up while pulling out on the key cylinder. The cylinder should come straight out, and replace it with a new one by lining it up, and pushing it in the hole. If there's more to it, it may be inside the column. Let me know how it turns out.

Less than twenty or thirty bucks, depending where you get it.
