High-temp. paint for headers....
As I posted before, I ordered a new set of shorties to replace my cracked header(s). However, since I wanted to go the economical route, my new headers are not treated with any high-temp. paint/ceramic coating, but I thought I might as well paint them myself before I get them installed on Thursday. However, they are currently painted with a standard paint to keep them from rusting in the package. Does anyone know if I should strip this paint before I apply high-temp. paint or can I go ahead and paint the headers as they are? I am worried that the high-temp paint won't bond well and thus peel off, leaving the regular paint exposed which will easily come off and I'll be left with a set of rusty headers before too long. Any help would be much appreciated!

the orange VHT that i put on my headers is still there. kinda. its still orange, but it will wipe right off, its been on there a month though. i also painted my mufflers and they are holding up well. next i will try the blue or black. i can get it cheap cause I work at a dirt bike shop and a lot of distributors we buy from sell it.

Well part of the problem is you have to let the it cure before driving. Basically like let the vehicle idle (don't drive it) for about 20-30min until hot then turnoff and cool. Repeat this a few times. That cures it.
Next time my headers come off (when the roller 302 w/ AFR165s goes in) I'll be coating them properly this time.
It's not a paint but like a high temp coating. Car Craft had a BIG writeup on this within the last year.
