Question MPG ? What can I expect...

Hey all,
I'm new to the forum... I am looking to buy a 1994 to 1996 F-150 shortbed single cab, inline 6, with a 5 speed trans in the Sacramento, CA area. (something nice of course)

I'm pretty committed to getting one, but I'm wanting to know what I can expect the MPG might be on both Automatics and 5-speeds.

Thanks for your help!

Don

I had a 1995 F-150 x-cab, long bed, with a 302 and only got 13 MPG,
So I got rid of it for something with better mileage... Now I miss my truck and need another!

My 96 300/E4OB regular cab short bed 2WD got 19 highway and 14 city with 3.08 gears. When I swapped to 3.73s it went to 16 everywhere. The manual tranny has less of an overdrive so MPG should be similar.

Obviously, YMMV

Mine gets about 15-16 mpg. I can't break it down to highway and city driving because I do a combination of both. I do have a little bit larger tires than stock and 3.08 gears.

Highway I can get 19mpg, city and around town 15mpg...if I'm racing around I get as low as 12mpg.

I've got 3.55 gears (stock size tires) and the heavy duty 5-speed, and I get 13 around town. On the highway, I can get around 18 if I don't go over 65mph. I cruise a little faster than that though, and my mileage plummets to around 15.

The best MPG I ever got? While following my dad (who was towing), not driving any faster than 55-60mph, empty, I managed 21mpg.
