lift kit question
|
ive have seen aslot of people talking about the bilstein 5100 shocks that can lift the front of the truck up to 2". i used to have these on a tacoma and i enjoyed them very much. has anyone ever heard or seen someone try to stack a spacer lift on top of the coilover???

if you put a spacer(leveling kit) on top of a 5100 cranked to 2", your ball joint is going to be at such a severe angle that it probably wouldnt last more than a couple weeks. the idea of putting the 5100's on is to eliminate the need for a spacer.

not gonna work bro. your talking a 4-5" lift in which the ball joints/ control arms will be so overly angled i would be suprised if you got them bolted back up. would be the right price though.

lift kit questions
thanks for the replys, reason im asking is because i have a 2009 stx 4x4 and i have noticed the fx4's are taller. i think and from what ive heard they have a slight height advantage because of the "rancho shocks". but if you were to put a spacer lift on top of the rancho shocks, would it not be the same as putting one on the 5100's. ?? just wondering, any info please let me know. and thanks

upper a-arm question
where is the best place to find that, and how much of a difference will that make. just keep it from rubbing the coil spring right? but without a taller spindle, is it really doing much?

Take the advice given to you and don't do it.
The 5100s are setup to give a little more travel over stock, without putting anything in a bind (ball joints, cv joints, tie rod ends, spring, etc). A lot of spacer kits allow the front end too much droop, the spring hits the upper control arm, the cv boots rip, the ball joints max out, etc. Combining both will be very excessive. If it worked, companies would sell 4" lifts without drop brackets and longer knuckles. It doesn't work.
If you want 4" of lift quit trying to do it the cheap way and buy something that works.

I'm pretty sure stock fx4's are the same height as a stock 4x4. If you want cheap and can do the labor yourself do a body lift. But personally, save your money get a decent suspension lift that won't fail you in a few months.

question for brian wilson
Brian, your white f150, is it an fx4, or a 4x4, and also do you rub at all, any direction, with your 35"s ??

it does say in his sig that its an fx4. i would say if mine doesnt rub (2wd) then he should be fine. he also has muds (mine are all terrains) but should have clearance to turn as long as stock rims are used.

I can tell you that you cannot stack a spacer on top. you will never get it bolted back together. I had a customer that wanted to do that and when i told him no he took it to another shop. they managed to get it bolted back together and within a week he was calling me to get a suspension lift and many new front ends parts.
