whats the most you'll put your 2wd in?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ypRNbGBxq4
in that video at about 2:45 is the kind of mud we have around our cane fields around here...except it is around the WHOLE field instead of just 10 feet of it haha. would you think an open 4x2 with mud grips could make it through??

Only one way to find out. Bring a buddy with 4wd or a tractor of some sort.

how much would a rear locker help in this type of instance?

a locker would help a lot in certain instances, but you should have a 4x4 with you. Driving skills pay off a lot too.

A true locker like a detroit, not just a limited slip, 4.10s for more torque from the 4.2, and real mud tires-intercos, not some street mud terrain, aired down to about 15psi and Id do it.
With a 4x2 momentum is your friend, after you run out of momentum its traction, that’s where the locker, and low psi real mud terrains come in.

Just keep moving...and yes to the locker and some aggresive tires
heres my old 2wd screw (lifted and 33 all terrains) i have followed lifted 4x4 jeeps thru some nice size mud holes, then turn around and get stuck quick as chit on soft sand. (p.s. note the new screw)

I've never owned a 4x2 but if it's set up, I'll run it through anything.
Gettin stuck's half the fun, ain't it?

I took my truck through 34 inches of water, it made it through once, and stalled the second time.
Thats the only time I have been stuck, stuck. Other than I do fine.
