Question Power steering pump

I recently purchased a 1985 Ford F150 with a rebuilt 1978 351m and c6 tranny. The guy told me when I bought it that the power steering pump was bad. So I go to Trak auto and purchase another one (maybe that was my first mistake) but it does not look like the original pump. The original is not a saginaw, it is a Ford pump with a skinny filler neck. The new one from Trak has a shorter fatter neck with a flat plate like dip stick. I am wondering if it is ok to use the one from Trak, they insist that it is the right part but I wanted to check and be sure. The bolts seem to match up ok so maybe I am worrying about nothing. My other question is how do I know which is the return line and which is the pressure line. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
