01 F250 starts but shuts right off

My 01 F250 stalled when I stopped at a light today. It started right up but shuts right down unless I give it gas. It will drive if I go from neutral to drive and hit it. I have to drive two footed to keep from stalling when I slow down. Not sure what the hell it is. Any ideas?
Thank you,
Bill

Probably either a failed IAC valve or a vacuum leak.

Not necessarily. If it's a vacuum leak big enough to cause it to stall, you should get lean codes. If it's a stuck or failed IAC, probably not.

I was able to nurse it home but as I got closer, it got worse. It was sputtering and died 3/4 of the way into my driveway. I started thinking the fuel gauge was messed up and I was running out of gas. It would not restart. I got gas tonight and put a few gallons in hoping that was it. It started but wouldn't keep running and it took a lot to get it further up driveway. It was very choppy is the only way to describe it.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? You can do a fuel pressure test at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. It should be 28 to 40 psi, you can get a loaner gauge at most parts stores.

Thanks for the input guys. Found the problem 30 seconds after opening the hood this afternoon, never hooked up the hand held or took out a tool. A hose off the air filter box fell off the clip that holds it and popped off the back of the motor. I saw it right away, lol. Popped it back on and in the holder and it fired right up.
I appreciate all the input!!
