Smile 22" Tires with 373 Gears

Hello everyone. I am new here and enjoy reading everyone's post as a lot of them are very interesting! I have a question, I own a stock 06 F150 Harley Edition with the 5.4 and 373 rear gears, (2WD). This truck doesn't seem to have the acceleration that a lot of you talk about with the 5.4 motor. The wheels are 22" versus whatever the stock ones were and I am asking your opinions on how I would benefit from changing to maybe a 410 ratio rear gear? I now get around 14.5 mpg in mostly city driving and I would hate to kill this already gas thirsty truck. I would appreciate any and all f your responses! Thanks, Keith

You're right at the margin on regearing.....stock tire height is 31.9" and your tires are 33.9"

Usually at 34" tire height is when you want to regear and quiet honestly you're there....4.10's will help your getting up to speed and taking the strain off the drive train as for better mpg's???...might help but no guarantees.....these trucks are thirsty bricks....

I say 4.10 gears would be good for a 34" tire. since you're 2wd 4.30 gears are an option for you

I have 23" wheels and went from 3:55 to 4:11's, and I love them!! The supercharger doesn't hurt either!

Thank all of you and the only thing I gotta decide now is whether to go with 411's or 430's. I'm a young 55 and still like to show out every now and then, lol. Thanks again! Keith

3.73 to 4.10 really isn't worth it - but 4.30's would be.

This should help 4.30 or 4.56 if you want to feel the performance and not lose your mpg's. Remeber just cause you are regearing to a lower gear doesn't mean you will lose mpg's. In a case like yours where the truck is working really hard to turn over those tall heavy wheels/tires you make actually gain a half to a full mpg back. By the way the four digit numbers in the middle of the chart represent the rpm's you would turn with a 1:1 ratio which in our trucks is third gear.

Yes they will. I have 35" tires with 4.56s and it's a good combo, but almost too much low end power. My RPMs are at about 2600 on the interstate going around 70mph. I like them the best on 2 lane highways going 55-65mph. I can get almost 18mpg going about 60mph. It almost never has to downshift to go uphill

Glad I could help. May I also recommend diffsonly.com when you buy. Email them your request and he will respond with a great deal.
