My 4x4 wont engage, the light comes on but i have no movement from the front wheels, it seems like it only does it when it's cold out tho, today it was 40 out and i tried it, worked fine any thoughts?
4wd actuator is probly sticking its located under the black oil drain cover on the front diff. Btw what year and engine...more info on the truck...
His truck is an 04, which does not have the diff disconnect. More than likely. it is either a sticky motor on the TC or frozen IWEs/solenoid. More than likely the TC motor, which selects 4wd.
Oh I didn't know his was a 04 but still when the 4x4 light comes on the dash that indicates the transfer case has made a complete shift, so that's working its in the front axle. Iwes, solenoid, vacumm hoses etc

thanks guys, it's an 04 fx4... some one said it may be the grease gets to cold to engage... not sure tho, suppose i'll take it in and get bent over by the ford dealership lol
Same thing happened to me in December, it ended up being the motor that engages the 4wd. They rapped on it with a screwdriver handle an I was back on the road in under two minutes, no issue since.

Transfer cases do not have grease, they have transmission fluid in them.
Is it normal for the 4wd to kick out sometimes?? Like if I'm stuck in 2wd then engage 4wd sometimes it grinds alittle then clunk and sometimes it will start spinning the front wheels then kick out. I take my foot of the gas and retry and its fine.btw if I roll into 4wd its fine just happens when I get stuck in 2wd. Sorry to hijack someones thread.
