replaced u joint tuesday and now have vibration

tuesday night i replaced a horribly worn u joint on the rear of my rear driveshaft (differential side) and now have a pretty bad vibration, i followed instructions according to the haynes manual, marking the position of driveshaft mounting to the yoke, and replacing it to the same position. the replacement was pretty strait forward ( i thought). and now i have a strong vibration at 65 - 70 mph that is deffinatly coming from the rear. i jacked the rear of the trick off the ground and put it in drive to look at the drive shaft and it is certainly not turning straight. i have the u joint in evenly in all four sockets (the clip is seated in the groove on all of them) so i am assuming that the joint is centered. what else can i check, could it be tha u joint??

truck is a 2000 f150 4x4 9.75 rear

thanks for any help

no rotating the drive shaft on the differental flange, it can bolt up more then way, just unbolt it and turn it 90 degrees, drive it and see if it gets any better, then repeat... or putting hose clamps on the drive shaft to try to balance it, or take it out and take it to a drive shaft place and have it balance...

just turn the shaft 90 degrees at a time until the vibration stops.

unless you saw a weight fall off while doing the u-joints then that is the only problem. next time make an alignment mark on the driveshaft and differential

I did this old my old ford and dropped the driveshaft and one of the weights fell off .. It was a booger I had to take it out and have it rebalanced .. but The thing was mint when I put it back in.. Way better than it ever was no vibration at all.. .. This 2003 Ford Fx4 has never rode as good as my old 1993 f150 ( it does look better though )

You may want to pull the driveshaft and take it to a driveline shop, make sure it's not bent and get it balanced.

i know when i did my u-joints a huge frickin weight got knocked off. took it to a shop and the guy welded pretty much two washers on. surprised me that it took such little weight to re-balance.
