Question 2005 lariat 4x4 not working right

I have a 2005 f150 lariat that started making noise about a week ago
when is on 2high it sound like its scraping or tries to engage . when I put it on 4high it stops and drives fine. I called my local ford dealership and they said it could be the hubs or a vacum leak . My question is this something I can do myself or let the proffesionals take care of it
