Hey Austin FX4 great looking out! So what would be the best gear for performance and a 20" wheel? I don't tow, I plan on running 295/45/20 tires. How much MPG you lose with 4.56? Do I need to change both front & rear gears? Our just rear? Thanks for your help.

If you want to be able to use 4x4, you have to change both.

Did your truck have the factory LSD? Mine didn't so I'm thinking about doing a Detroit TrueTrac LSD when I do the gears. Where did you pick your gears up from?
Hey Stompy I got the gears from AmericanTruck.com good price too you'll love them especially with that supercharger she is going to scream brother cant wait to see it man that thing is going to be fast

What's your mileage like going 75+ and what do your rpms sit at. I think it would drive me insane for my rpms to be sitting above 2500 on the highway and would suck down a tank of gas in a hurry.

I have the same gears and honestly I don't think I am going to re-gear. I'll just have an all motor beast. I will have plenty of torque with a twin screw so it wont be an issue. If I were to do a gear swap however, I would jump to 4.30s

How are the highway RPM's? Seems like my truck sees an equal amount of time at 70mph as it does 45mph.

Where did you have them installed? We have a couple 4wheel parts here in town but I'd almost rather have a small transmission and gear shop do it.

The highway RPM's stay about 2200 at highway speed which is right where I wanted it to be and the Gas mileage has gotten a little better. I ad the performance shop here in my town out them in he deals with alot of mercury marauders and mustangs, but they are in the ford family and he knows a ton about the 5.4 modular engines so I had no problem taking it to him since hes done alot of gears changes on other ford products and they all have the same rear ends.

Cherokee, how's the difference in acceleration? how much "torque" does it feel like you've gained. I've been wanting 4.30 gear for like 6 months now and I finally have the funds. I just want to paint to clearest picture in my head before forking out the dough

I understand completely they are great one of the best mods you can do in my opinion and you are in luck because Ford racing makes a set for the 8.8 rear end I havent had the truck on a Dyno yet but I could definitely feel a big difference in acceleration have no fear with this mod it is a great one but dont expect it to be like putting a supercharger in its not that big of a difference but it is noticeable.
