F150 Lightning AWD

Hello everyone, I have a 2004 Lightning that I near totaled a few years back and decided to do something different instead of just repairing it. When I was a teen I always wanted a GMC Cyclone or Typhoon and I thought how cool would it be to make my lightning into AWD. So having a shop at my disposable being a shop owner I decided to literally take my entire 04" lightning and drop it on a 4x4 frame. I have a built 4r100 trans with a expedition awd/4wd transfer case. Here is the issue were I thought some of you may know something I don't or can help. As of now I have to manually get under the truck and switch it over to 4wd with the electric motor removed. I cant even put into words how hard this truck comes out of the hole with 540 tq to the wheels :O) but its a bitch not having control over the 4x4 issue in the cab. So on the expeditions does the electric motor switch over to 4x4 when there's loss of traction? That wouldn't be considered AWD then. I realize there is a computer, switches, etc..etc.. that should be connected if in the original truck, but I thought it would be AWD when not switched over to 4wd and was gonna leave it at that. Atleast until I found someone who could wire up the motor to work via switches in the cab with out the OEM stuff. I know its possible. So I wasn't sure if anyone on here knows about this stuff or if I need to go on an Expedition site. Just really dont know how this supposed AWD Expedition Transfer-case works.

2nd Id like some opinions, I have a built explorer AWD transfer case which is always AWD no 4x4 option and I was thinking of just bolting that up in my truck and modifying the drive shafts for fitment issues. The transfer case I have bolts right up to the transmission output shaft and all, so custom drive shafts would be the only issue. I do have someone who has modified drive shafts for me before and he said he can do so here also. I'm not planning on really crazy off road trips but I do want to take it off road here and there. what would be the pros and cons to being AWD all the time. It would definitely eliminate the electronics issues.

Seen a few people here drop lightning engines into their 4x4s, never the other way around. Im sure it can't be too much different, or harder.
These guys will be able to help you out and walk you through the process pretty well. Don't worry, they will be around shortly.

Don't forget to take lots of pics.

Might want to take a look in the phone book and see if "Richardson Brothers" are still doing business in Gladstone / West Linn. Its been several years since I lived there but they had a 4 x 4 business and were the best in the area. Good luck with the conversion.

All the Land Rovers from the dawn of time are all time 4wd, with a selectable high and low in the T-Case. other then loosing out on MPGs there isnt really a huge down side from being all time 4wd. You will have more wear and tear on your CV axles, but being this sounds like a toy and not a daily driven vehicle i wouldnt worry about the wear and tear on it.

first off, which idea do you really want to do? selectable 4x4 like my hillbilly self? i'll be honest, i've nailed her in 4hi up a sand hill. omfg, the rev limiter sounded sexy, so was the roost.

get your switch, get the wiring schematics and run your own wiring... actually, i'm not electrically savvy at all, but "could" the electrical in the dash be available?
