I have the 5.4 and after driving it for 2 weeks I like it, I've had to get on it twice and it goes with no issue... but I want this thing to be my keep for like 10 years truck, so if 4.56s will = better mpg and save my tranny, then that is the way I want to go. By the way I already have 35s. Would you agree it's best to just go with 4.56s? This would still allow me to get into overdrive right? Most of my driving is highway.

I think 4.56's is perfect. Your highway mpg may decrease a bit, but your city will increase so it most likely will even out to a minimal difference in what you get now. It will definitely help save your tranny. I do recommend looking into a tuner of some sort to calibrate your PCM, as it will still think you have stock tires and stock gear ratio, so your odometer will be off a bit.

So the theory is that with a lower gear your rpms with be more mid-range where the engine provides more torque?
