3.55 gears with 33's?

I was just wondering if any of you guys think it's worth re gearing 3.55's for 33" tires. I got the 9.75 LS in an 09 which I tow/haul with a bit and would like to purchase some 285's. Thanks

probably not necessary for 33's...depends on how much you tow.

I'd regear to 4.10's unless you plan on a larger tire in the future, then I'd go with 4.56's or 4.88's

If you have the 6 speed auto, you shouldn't have to regear.

The 6-spd should help for the city. not sure you'll like the down shifting on the highway, though. What kind of trailer and weight do you pull?

It's not the best setup in the world but if you aren't gonna be pulling anything too heavy then you should be fine. If you got the budget I'd get 4.10s though, more torque is never a bad thing

I have run 285's on other trucks here's what I found. If you run a 6 or 8 ply tire, going from the 275/65 18 will be a marginal difference at best. If you are going to a 10 ply tire, at highway speeds little or no difference, but at start to speed there is a noticeable difference due to the added weight of the tire. As someone else said, if you don't tow alot or often, you will most likely be okay with a 6 or 8 ply tire and gearing would not be an issue for 285/65. Larger weight more often, then 10 ply tires would be in order, but aside from some sluggishness at start, shouldn't be a big deal. 4.10's are good, but if you drive highway alot, you may consider 3.73's as a more efficient gear considering you won't be running 35's. Just my opinion, hope it helps.

in my 02 i have 3.55 gears and 33s. my boat is probably about 2000 lbs and the truck pulls it fine and has no problems getting it in and out of the water. kinda sluggish getting up to speed but i really have no problems. would be nice to have a set of 4.10s though.

3.55 to 4.10's is not really going to make that much of a difference...especially for the $1000ish its going to cost. Someone else mentioned 4.56 or 4.88 if you plan to go bigger, that would be more worth the $. But it's all just a matter of opinion, none of these combinations will hurt the truck. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thing is, the 6 speed auto has a very nice low 1st gear. This compensates a LOT for the final drive ratio. If you have issues on the highway, you can always lock out 6th and maybe even 5th.

I would not spend that kind of money you will have to if you are only running 33s... Especially if it's a 4x4... Changing gears for tire size will be important for tires 35"s or larger...

I have 32's and 3.55 gears. It does just fine. No drag racer, but not a total dog. I can't see another inch making that much difference. As stated, with the 6 speed, you will be fine.

coming from 3.55s though, a 4.10 is a nice jump.

i know going to 35s a 4.10 is actually more than enough to compensate for the jump in tire, as far as calculations go 35/33 *3.55 = 3.765
