05 F150 5.4L 4x4 - I want 4.56 gears and need help/advice!

Hey guys, I’m sorry if I’m asking something that has already been discussed, but I’ve searched through post after post and cannot find specific answers to my questions. Please help!

I have a 2005 F150 XLT 5.4L 4x4 w/ axle code H9 (3.55 limited slip). I have 35’s and my truck is really sluggish. (I have a Stage 2 AFE intake, Magnaflow side exhaust, Edge Tuner, etc. – so I know I have a little power at least).

After doing some research, I’ve decided I want to install 4.56 gears. My question is, where do I go from here?

1. What size rear end do I have (9.75)?
2. Do I have to buy 2 sets of ring and pinions? And if so, would I order 2 sets of (9.75) sizes?
3. Do they make special types of gears for limited slip?
3. What are some reputable brands (Yukon, Ford Racing, etc.)?
4. What accessories should I buy to go with for the install? Are there any seals, gaskets, etc. that I need when having the gears swapped? Maybe a kit?
5. What else should I know about when considering what to buy?
6. Can anybody recommend a good place to buy the gears online?
7. And lastly, what should I expect to pay for the gears, and labor of installation?

I realize this is a lot to ask, but I would really appreciate any advice or input. I have never dealt with re-gearing a vehicle before. Does anybody have a similar setup that they can share their experience or offer any advice?

Thank You!

1. Yes.
2. Yes. The front is 8.8" reverse cut.
4. Master install kits.
7. $1500 to $2000.
