2wd gear swap q's

hey fellaz
just wondering if anyone here has done a gear swap on a 2wd with 5.4...
everything that i have been reading about are 4x4s..mine is more of a street truck..

lil bit a info:
i got the truck a month ago. i drove it and i thought i ran pretty slow..so i figured it has 150000 the exhaust must be slowing it down.or maybe since i was used to driving my mustang...anywho..since then i have added pc long tubes,y-pipe and muffler...i plan to add to hf cats and a magnaflow with in the next week or two...from what i have read hf cat will give me lil bit more low end..

now i belive it has 9.75 rear end...stock unopened...
i was thinking of 410 gears..maybe even 430 but i wanted to get other people opinion...i do use the truck on the highway alot thats why im still ify about the gear swap...is it even worth it??

thanks in advance

A tuner would be money better spent, unless you are lifting it and putting bigger tires on it.

What year is it, and what's the current axle ratio?

i have a street truck as well and i really want 4.30 gears. cruising at 70mph should be about 2200rpm. not too bad at all. might lose 1mpg if that

stock is either 3.55 or 3.73. Read the axle code on the inside door jam. Tell us what it says and we can find out which one, and if its limited slip or open.

I have yet to find who sells the 4.30's for the 9.75, i know a few companies offer them for the 8.8. I believe i noticed them for the 9.75 aswell just cant find them now.

If you can get 4.30's id go that route, the gain out weighs the loss IMO. Just a couple hundered RPM difference.

for gears check
Yukon
Ford Racing
Precision

the tag on the rear end says 331 so im guessing thats what the gear ratio is...

now how do i find out if its open or limited??

the decal on the door jam has these
R/AXLE/TR
9 27 U

i did added an electric fan and the bbk pullies...the truck feels pretty good now...but i sill wouldnt mind more acceleration...

I have a 01' 5.4L supercrew 2wd with 4.10 gears and a Detroit Truetrac. It made a world of difference for mine, but I 20" wheels on mine. On the interstate I'm turning around 2100 rpm at 70 mph. If you pull anything with overdrive off, you will be turning somewhere over 3000 rpm at 70 mph. As far as gas mileage goes, I get a consistent 15 1/2 mpg. That is about 70% city and 30% highway. Just do it, you won't regret it.
