are 3.73 gears good?

i was just looking at my window sticker from when i bought the truck back in '05 and under optional equipment it reads

3.73 ratio limited slip axle
7150# GVWR package

is that good or bad for the tire and wheels i have on my truck? i know some guys change their gears when they install larger tires..

it also reads California emissions system.. what does that mean?

3.73s are fine for the about 35s that you have. It offers decent torque without sacrificing highway RPMs.

Side note: I never noticed cou have a scab with the 5.5ft bed, kind of rare I guess.

If you regear, go with 4.56's to make it worthwhile. 4.10's are not that much of an improvement over 3.73's and you can't get 4.30's for the front.

It means your truck was certified for sale in all 50 states.

i cant stand it. 3.73s with 35s is okay around town but once you are on the highway and you hit any sort of climb it just SUCKS. I'm doing 4.88s.

Q: Are 373's Good?
A: No!

You will be much happier with at least 456's (488-ftw).
I had two trucks, both on 35's. One had 488's, one has 373's. Once you get gear, you cant go back. Only saving grace about the truck with the 373's is that its a turbo diesel.
