Superior brand gearset inputs?

a local 4wheelparts has quoted me $1250 for 4.30 ring and pinion w/ master install kit (along with detroit tru trac ls). they only carry the brand Superior for the 4.30, but was wondering if any of you guys run it or know of anything about it.

as an option, i could 4.10 with the Yukon brand for $30 cheaper. but then again, i've heard of Yukon re-branding others as their own. can anyone confirm this?

also, should i get warranty for this? guy quoted me $290 for 3yr/36k for both the gearset and ls. no questions asked - they replace/fix when it breaks. good idea?

inputs appreciated!

P.S. just in case anyone asks: truck is 2wd, v6, and gonna run 33" on oem 20s

superior is a good brand...i wouldnt worry about it. seems a bit high for one axle, IMHO. my local 4wp is running a free labor sale....heard it on the radio today. 4wp as a company is hurting for business, so you might want to bring that up

superiors are decent. Yukon does not cut any of there own gears, there yukon brand is cut my many manufacturers and yukon has strict quality control guidlines for those manufacturers, all their gears are quality. they do rebox other companies gears but box them as US standard gears or value gears. they only do this for those gear sets that only one company makes, for example jeep JK gears are only made by superior, yukon buys these and reboxes them as a value gear. same with a couple othe specific ones. they will not put there name on any gear brand that they were not directly involved in the manufactuting process with there stipulations being met for heat treament, cutting, and lapping. Thats why they have biult such a good product image.

i wouldnt worry about the extra warranty. if something is going to happen to the gears it will most likely happen in the first few weeks of driving....just make sure you go back for the 10 day check.

If they mess something up from the install they should warranty it anyway. If there is a problem with the detroit it should be warrantied by manufacturer. Worst case, if something went horribly wrong not caused by the installed you'd probably have to pay labor. Still unlikely if it is a reputable shop. Don't worry about the warranty.

My local 4 Wheel Parts dot com Performance Center has a stellar reputation. They installed my Ford Racing Performance Parts 4.10 gears & a Mag-Hytec differential cover without any issues.
