Limited slip axle not limiting slip

I have an '04 with a limited slip differential, but unless I am turning left that right wheel only just spins away. Are these units not any good from the factory, or is mine wore out at 50K miles?? Any one else have this issue??

They are pretty weak, if you shim them up, you can get them really tight and they work, if incorrect fluid i in there they will burn very quickly. If its an 8.8 the carrier is very weak. With some shims and new clutches these can work very well but the carrier is still weak.

Try changing the fluid but don't put in the full amount of friction modifier. It will burn up the clutches quicker, but it may be worth it if you really want the results. I'd start with half and go from there.

BTW, I've heard of the clutches going bad after less than 70k miles, so you may be getting there.

ECGS: when you say "shim them up", do you mean put more preload on the carrier bearings? Isn't that bad?

no you can add shims to the clutch packs to make them tighter.
