2001 Lariat F150 Supercrew, 5.4 V8 4x4. My truck randomly makes a really lout IRRRRRRK sometimes when I go to crank it. I've been told it could possibly be the starter not engaging the flywheel and that I could need a new one. I'm by no means a mechanic, but I figured if it was a simple installation, I could save myself some $. Thanks.

Three bolts hold it onto the bellhousing. Top one is easiest to get at with the front pass side tire removed. Remember to disconnect the battery as well, so you don't get a shower of sparks and short out something when disconnection the cable from the old starter.

You'll need an assortment of metric sockets and extensions and maybe even a universal socket depending.... I did....

It would be a good idea to pick up a Chilton manual as well... Well worth the $20 or so if you want to do some other basic maintenance/repair things...

simple job on a stock vehicle. i did mine in my 4.6 when i first got my truck cause it wouldnt release fast enough and made a bit of noise. i had figured it out and replaced it in 30 mins. it only gets faster as you figure out the little quirks.
