Good axle gear shop?

I live in the Houston TX area and I want to get my axles regeared with 4.88s. I talked to 4 wheel parts and they quoted me at around $1400. I dont want to spend that kind of money for this so Im sure there is a smaller shop around that will do it cheaper. If anyone knows of a good shop...let me know. Thanks

what engine do you have? 5.4's are equipped w/ the 9.75 rear, the 4.6 and 4.2 the 8.8 rear. ask the shop which axle that quote applies to as well...

well the truck has a 4.6 in it but i know the axle has been replaced. it is a 1996 axle on the 1997 truck. Is there a way of looking at it to tell (like the tag or something)? or is there a way to measure it or seomthing? Thanks
