Re-Gearing Question

I have 3:55's right now and with a 34ish tire the truck is a dog. What would you guys say the best gear would be and whats the most cost effective way to get them changed? Any suggestions are welcome! thanks !

I was asking this question a little while ago, seems that 4:10's if you do alot of highway and 4:56's if it;s mostly city or you plan on doing 35" or larger tires down the road. I just went down to 33's and I'm planing on 4:10's. I do alot of highway though.

I am in the exact same place. I was thinking 4.10's for sure, but I started playing with it and with a 33.8" tire you need a 4.135 to bring it back to stock, plus everyone seems to say that you should go a little bit over to compensate for the extra weight of the big tires. I am now stuck between 4.10's and 4.30's as mine is a 2wd and has the 4.30 option. If your 4wd Id prob go with 4.10's as I think 4.56s may be over doing it a little bit, BUT I dont have any real experience, just playing with the gear calculators online.

i would do 4.56 i dont think 4.10's would be to great of an improvement. and if you ever decide to go with a bigger tire you will regret doing 4.10's

If you tow then I would definitely get 4.56s.

I honestly think you will be happier with 4.56 gears. You will be geared a little higher and your highway mileage may suffer a small degree more then what you would with 4.10s. Here is a simple rpm calculation just to show how much difference there really will be in your two different sets. And re gearing is not cheap so I would go with 4.56's that way if you decide you want 35s you will be able to get the extra mass rolling easier. A rough ball park is $1500 for re-gearing just make sure you get some good gears so you don't get noise coming from them. They are only $50 more then the junky ones so dont skimp.

New RPMS= (old rpms * new gear ratio)
old gear ratio

This formula is by no means perfect but it will get you relatively close. Hope this helps.
