Can anyone advise if the axle codes on door post sticker are the same for F250 and F150 for same model year? A similar earlier question got me some good info, but I haven't yet unearthed complete list of codes. If anyone could help provide axle codes for '97, '98 and '99 F150 and F250, it would be a huge help. I'll looking to buy a truck with 5.4 V8 to tow a travel trailer, so really only need codes for the 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10 gears(So far, I've found codes for the '99 F150 H9 and 19 = 3.55 and B6 = 3.73). Yes, the codes are the same for all f series trucks, and the codes have been used for quite a few years. But the codes tell you three things about the axle. First they tell you which axle you have, (whether its an 8.8", a 9.75", 10.25" etc). They also tell you the ratio, as well as wether it is an open or limited slip differential.

Here we go:

the code can either be a 2-digit number or a letter number combination. if it is a letter number combination, it is a limited slip axle.

next, the first number, or the letter tell which axle it is. the number "1", and the letter "H" are for the 8.8" axle typically found on the v-6 f150's which is rated for 3800lbs. "2" and "B" refer to the 9.75" axle typically found on the v-8 f150's , f250 light duty's, and expeditions which is rated for 5300lbs. "3" and "C" refer to the 10.25" or 10.5" axle found on the f250 and f350 super duty's which is rated for 6250lbs. the codes keep going for larger axles, but these are the ones you will most likely be concerned with.

The second number refers to the ratio, and unfortunately, these aren't as logical as the others. there are a bunch, and I may not have them all, but I have most of them.

2 - 2.73
8 - 3.08
9 - 3.55
6 - 3.73
5 - 4.10

That is the info I have, not all combinations are possible for example, you can't order an f150 with a 10.25" axle with a 2.73 ratio, but you should be able to make better sense of the axle codes
