Question

DARTHMAN: Did you install it yourself, if so how hard was it? Did you find a dealer on the web or local shop to purchase it from? I also need something before winter hits

actually i have two mechanic who helped me..or should i say they did the work for me while i scooped down with them underneath my rig and watch them do it...i let them do the dirty work while i sit and watch and coach them into doing it....it wasnt hard..practically bolted right in with no problem...one mechanic would do but since the other one wasnt doing anything, he pitch in and help as a helper..we did it on my garage...finish it in 6 hours, but if i will do it again, i or we could probably finish it in about 2 hour or maybe less.....remember, the first time is always the tricky part...we used only minor tools...torque wrench..socket 19mm and 12mm...pliers for the brake assembly...gear lube...gasket maker...i would highly recommend the TRUETRAC to any one...it's quite aggressive in the mud sort of a like a Locker but more street friendly...glad to answer any more questions about it...

Question

Darthman,

I am about to install 4.10gears in 2w.d. and i was thinking about installing a detroit gearless locker due to the fact i mostly do street driving. But lately i have heard a lot about the truetrac. My question to you is, is the truerac responsive enough on the street or does it only work off road?. thank you for any info you can give me.

as far as being responsive, yes! THE truetrac IS RESPONSIVE EVEN IN PAVEMENT ROADS. you will noticed it chattering your tires when doing corner turns especially if the road is wet or slippery. but you can control the chattering by applying minumum power. the truetrac works great under 4.56 gearing. above that it doesnt work as well. I kept my 3.31 rear stock. i only change my tires to 245/70/16. I f u do 90percent highway , I would suggest the truetrac. heck! I done some moderate trail ,both hilly and muddy and i was able to go thru no problem. i was thinking of doing the gearless locker but hesitated upon thinking that i've be on pavement most of the time. i use a good quality lube. MYSTIC JT-7 85W 140 on my truetrac and added a aluminum differential rear cover that holds additional 2 qt of oil. to me this combination is great. if u r planning to do the install urself. i can guide u thru it. its fairly easy. u do have to unbolt the ring gear. but the gearless u dont have to. if u plan to do it urself the easy way, go with the gearless, but if u plan to have a shop install it, go with the TRuetrac.
glad to answer more questions.

Darthman,
I am going to go with 33" tires next. I have 3" spindles in front and i think that is the best way to go. I am thinking about getting the 2 1/2 leveling coils once i get the 33's(not that i need to but i like the lifted look). Now if you decide to get the spindles let me know what kind of pricing you get and i will try to get you a better deal. My best friend works for a 4wheeldrive store. take care.
