Extended warranty

I just bought an '06 F150 4wd with the 5.4 and 29,xxx miles. I have never owned a truck before and was wondering about an extended warranty. Is it a waste of money? My last Ford, '98 SHO, was very reliable.

Did they not offer you one when you purchased the truck? I'd be curious as to if there is any price difference since you'd have to go back and get one.

Anyway, I look at it as a gamble. I bought my F-150 new in 2002 and I didn't extend the warranty after the factory warranty was up at 36K. It now has 103K with no major issues so I lucked out I guess.

I just picked up a used 08' Escape for the wife (it was a Ford "project") and I got the extended 75K mile warranty. Mostly because it's a semi new design and those sometimes tend to have bugs that need to be worked out.

I would look into it if I were you, that way you can rest easy knowing you're covered.

edit: oh and welcome to the site...

When I bought the truck they did offer me a warranty for the low,low price of $1565.00. "It will only raise your payment by $30/month" After I finished choking on my coffee and laughing simultaneously, I politely declined his offer. I checked on line at Ford directly and they offer the same warranty for about $350.00 less. I'm not inclined to purchase a warranty anyway. I was looking to hear from current F150 owners and get their input.

I think I might get an extended warranty if you think you will be replacing the spark plugs before it expires and the extended warranty would cover broken plug extraction.

All you need is one major warranty repair and the plan pays for itself. The price you were quoted was high. You can go back later to purchase the plan.

If you do decide to get an extended warranty you should wait until you are almost at the end of the factory bumber to bumper warranty. A lot of times the dealer will sell a warranty tat covers you for 60000 or 100000miles so if you buy the warranty when the truck has 0 miles on it you lose out on the money you paid for the extended warranty for the first 36,000 miles because the truck was already covered.
