Windshield Wiper Troubles
#16
Hmmmm
I had my '97's wiper control changed because it wouldn't spray on demand -- and my 95 Ranger goes into full spray and wipe when it feels like it (wonder if it will catch fire in the parking lot or burn down my garage).
At least, now that you all have mentioned similar problems, I know I'm not crazy!

I've had my multi-function switch replaced twice. I have a '97 w/ 45k miles. I asked the service writer if he would order a case of switches for me since this is going to be part of my normal routine maintenance.

Come on guys not all dealers and techs suck.
I'm 25 years old and have worked in a dealer for 8 1/2 years. I went to Ford ASSET(ford school) for two years and am continually updating my training. The problem with the uncommanded wiper/washer operation can be a couple of things. Ford first wants us to check all conections at the GEM module and the multi-function switch. If all connections are secure then Ford wants us to replace the GEM and/or multi-function switch depending on vehicle application. There is a TSB out for this concern and this repair is covered under your warranty. Any other question I will be glad to try and help with.
And please don't be so hard on us techs. There are some really good ones out there but all it takes is a couple bad experiences with the crappy ones to ruin it for the good ones. Thanks for letting me rant.

Hey 'Fixer, I think the fact that you are here on this board shows that you're probably a good tech, that you at least hear what Ford owners feel about their vehicles and the people who work on them. In my experience with Ford techs, there are two types; those that listen, and those that don't. There is a 100% correlation between listening and being a good tech, IMHO.
I wish more techs and service coordinators would log on to this board -- I think they would learn A LOT about how to help their customers.

I had my wiper switch replaced just before the warrenty ran out on my 1995 F-150. I think I had less than 500 miles left on the 36,000 mile warrenty. Now it has 63K miles on it and again the switch is going out. I have the same problem on my 92 Crown Vic. Seems there should be a recall on these with this many problems.
Later days,
Roy.

Help! I haved joined the cursed with the phantom wipers. Dealer says 'ran OASIS to find SSM to check red/tan wire for chafing, removed junction box and wires OK'. They couldn't recreate the problem while in the shop. I wouldn't think they could since the wipers would act up every few days at random.
Can someone explain what OASIS and SSM mean? And where can I find more information on this TSB?
