4.10 or 4.30 gears for my 35s?

I have a 97 F150 4x4 4.6L with stock 3.55 differentials.
I recently installed a 3" body lift and put some 35" BFGs on.

Im looking at re-gearing but am not convinced on what ratio i should go with...

4.10s - best gas mileage and around stock power
4.30s - for a little more power

I will be moving to college 4 hrs away and will be driving back to my home town many times. WHICH WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE?

Thanks

what are you doing with the truck? is it like mine and just a vehical to get you one place to another with style and the occasional sled of atv in the back? if so go for 4.10. if you plan on doing serious offroading( not the yay i drove threw a deep puddle) or towning trailers more thena couple times a year go with the other gears.

I could only wish I had the 4.10's in my truck. That is my only complaint with this truck.....I'm not that concerned with fuel mileage as long as it doesn't go way under 10mpg...then I might think twice lol.

just remember that you need to regear both the front and the rear....from what I've seen there isn't a 4.30 ratio option for the front diff only 4.10 and 4.56.....

BTW I'm having the same delima on my 5.4L....

with 35" tires 4.56 would get you within 100 rpm of stock and would be the best way to go in my opinion the tranny would be at the optumal rpm range it was desiened for, in my opinion, good luck

After a month running 35s on my 04, I bit the bullet and found a customizing shop to re-gear my truck to 4.56. I was originally going to stick with my programmer and add an intake and exhaust, but after towing a trailer with appliances and watching my mpg go down the toilet, it was time. I had better gas mileage towing a Bobcat on a heavy trailer with the stock tires before getting the new treads...

So what was the result in unloaded gas milage after the re-gear compared with stock before 35's? How's the mileage with 35's now with the 4.56's? How's the towing now with the 35's and 4.56's?

Finally what did it cost you to get this done including the gears? (I assume you did front and rear)

My truck doesn't go in until the first week of August. The shop's supplier couldn't get the front gears to them until then. I'll let you know as soon as I'm finished, but it's got to be better than it is now. I went from 17-18 mpg with the stock tires down to avg around 10-12 mpg, especially if I have to drive around town a lot. The Superchips tuner I used didn't quite overcome the disadvantage with the bigger tires, so...three more weeks, and it'll be a different world...
