Question Steering Slack/Clunk

I have a question about the steering system in my 2002 4x4 ORP F-150. While the truck was sitting in my driveway with the door open and the transmission in park I turned the steering wheel from side to side and noticed that there was a small clunking noise and that there seemed to be a little bit of slack. I've also notice the clunking when parking and the slack as well. I know it is the steering system, but unsure what exactly it might be. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

I just tracked mine down the other night.... there's a lot of slop in the steering shaft at the joint where the two halves meet under the hood. I plan on taking it to the stealership soon to rectify the problem.
