How much gear oil?

How many quarts will i need to fill my rear diff, 98 4.6/auto/4x4 3.73. Nothing heavy duty, no trailer towing ect..

I read a few threads but can't find an amount. I picked up two quarts, (Valvoline synthetic), but have a feeling i'll need more. (Rusted through cover.)

Thanks.

I have a 1999 F150 Lariat 4x4 extended cab with the 9.75 axle. Haynes manual specifies 5.7 pints or about 3 quarts.
