Question How to identify gear ratio in my truck

I recently bought a 1997 4.2L V6 4X2 F-150 XL Reg Cab Short Bed with a 5 spd. manual tranny. How can I find out whether this truck has a 3.08 or 3.55 rear end??????

Look at one of the tags on the diff cover. It will have a number like 3L55 for 3.55:1 Limited Slip or 308 for 3.08:1 Open(not limited slip). For other info do a search for other posts.

One other option is to jack up the rear of the truck. Put a mark on the inside of one of the rear tires and one on the drive shaft. Rotate the tire one complete revolution and watch how many times the drive shaft goes around. So if it's just a bit more than 3 times your gear set is 3.08 and if it's about 3 and a half times, you have 3.55's

while that's helpful, your signaure spam link is not, and newer vehicles you only have to open the drivers door to find the axle code
