2001 Escape 3.0L

I have a buddy that has an escape throwing the following codes:
P0301
P0351
P0171 and 0174

I am familiar with the 0171 and 0174 and I will guide him in eliminating those lean codes. The 0301 and 0351 are a mystery. The coilpacks and plugs are new and yet the engine still thinks there is a misfire. It runs fine. On cold days it may stall while at a stop light and require a little gas to rev it up. The IAC is brand new so we can rule that out. Throttle response is great. The transmission shifts fine
(up and down). I am wondering if anybody has had any experience with this particular vehicle.

This is Coil-on-plug, I take it?

Did you use the correct double platinum plugs?

How many miles?

The P0171 and P0174 codes indicate a lean condition. That, along with the stalling while idling tells me there is a probably a vacuum leak somewhere. Double check the vacuum lines. You can test for a leak by spraying some carb cleaner around the engine while it's running. If it revs up, you've found your leak.

Good luck.

I would have to check the manual to believe that Ford recommends double platinum plugs in any of their vehicles. Most of these motors are designed around motorcraft plugs and risk spark plug failure with anything else.

Thanks for the reply though and I will be sure to look into it.

P0301 through P0310 - Misfire Detection Monitor

Description:
The misfire detection monitor is designed to monitor engine misfire and identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. Misfire is defined as lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression, or any other cause. ( P0301 would indicate cylinder 1 )

Possible causes:
Ignition system
Fuel injectors
Running out of fuel
EVAP canister purge valve
Fuel pressure
Evaporative emission system
Base engine

P0351 Through P0360 - Ignition Coil A through J Primary/ Secondary Circuit Malfunction

Description:
Each ignition primary circuit is continuously monitored. The test fails when the PCM does not receive a valid IDM pulse signal from the ignition module (integrated in PCM).

Possible causes:
Open or short in Ignition START/RUN circuit
Open coil driver circuit in harness
Coil driver circuit shorted to ground
Damaged coil
Damaged PCM
Coil driver circuit shorted to PWR

P0171 - System to Lean (Bank 1)

Description:
The Adaptive Fuel Strategy continuously monitors fuel delivery hardware. The test fails when the adaptive fuel tables reach a rich calibrated limit.

Possible causes:
For lean and rich DTCs:
Fuel system
Excessive fuel pressure.
Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors.
Leaking fuel pressure regulator.
Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel.
Vapor recovery system.
Induction system:
Air leaks after the MAF.
Vacuum Leaks.
PCV system.
Improperly seated engine oil dipstick.
EGR system:
Leaking gasket.
Stuck EGR valve.
Leaking diaphragm or EVR.
Base Engine:
Oil overfill.
Cam timing.
Cylinder compression.
Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2Ss.

P0174 - System to Lean (Bank 2)
Same as P0171
