Help Demonic 01 Ranger

Hey guys on a 2001 Ford Ranger with about 127k the truck overheats and misses like crazy, this truck has been to 3 shops and they cant figure it out. We have replaced the thermostat housing which includes a new thermostat, replaced the water pump, and replaced the radiator. The tanks on the radiator dont get that hot the lower radiator hose is kinda cool not really hot, the top hose takes a while to warm up. Anyone have any ideas?????

What engine is in it?

And besides, overheat + misfire = base engine problems. This isn't all that difficult. Warped/cracked heads, blown head gasket, etc. Have you ran a compression test on it yet? What do the plugs look like? How 'bout the O2s? Pull the upstream O2 sensors and see if they have a greenish tint to 'em. Any water in the oil?

2.3L DOHC engine runs fine until it gets hot, come to find out the thermostat housing has 2 hose connection one is the lower RAD hose and the other is some sort of bypass, well the small hose is really hot and the lower RAD hose isn't and there is some sort of sensor/electrical connector. No DTCs

I'd start with base engine. Vacuum gauge readings, compression and leakdown test.
