Something is wrong.. again..2 questions.....

every Saturday I take a couple hours out of the day to detail the Mounty, so it was nice and clean when taking it out last night for the first time since the wash.

I was driving to my Friends house last night, and I notice when I take my brake off the Mounty seems to slow down much faster then it should, like something is holding me back. I don't use my emergency brake, so I know thats not sticking, and who knows whats going on.

after a 15 minute drive to the Friends house, I pull on the street and park and inspect the tires and rims. I see my drivers side rim is BLACK as can be! Can't even see the Aluminum at all after a 15 minute drive. So I went to take my finger and find out how thick the black brake dust is, and burned the chit out of my finger only touching the rim for a second. The other 3 rims are perfect with no dust on them what so ever, just that driver side one.

So then after 5 hours I drive back home, but this time I didn't feel anything holding me back and when I got home, the rim was cool still and not hot like it was before?? Why could one drive have a sticky brake pad, and the other drive home be okay?

---second question-- Temperature was 83 last night when driving to my Friends house, I for some reason turned the heat on full blast all the way up to see how hot it got, and I was amazed how hot it was, it would burn you holding your hand up to the vent for 3 or more seconds! heat isn't suppose to be enough to burn you coming out of the vents is it???

Every Ford truck I've owned has had enough heat to toast bread. An Iowa winter can make you appreciate that kind of thing though

Is it possible you got something on the breaks? When I replaced the breaks on my old Cav. I didn't worry about taking that greasy goop off and when I went for a test drive it burned off and smoke and a horrible smell came off them. If you got something else on them like cleaning supplies its possible it could turn them black. So then the question is was it break dust or could it be something else?

problem solved now....

I took the caliper off and brake pads off and pushed on the brake pedal to see if the pistons were seized up. The top piston came out, but the bottom did not. then I couldn't get the top piston back in, it came out to far to be pushed back in, and anyway the bottom piston wasn't working.

so I ended up buying a new caliper for only 30 bucks and it works like new again after I replaced it.
