If you are going to try this, please please learn from my mistakes...

When you prep, sand to bare metal. When you think that you've sanded enough, you haven't. I wasn't as **** as I should have been and now it's peeling.
At this point (to fix it correctly) I need to sand blast it and have it professionally done.
I did it myself to try and save money, and now it's going to cost me more in long run than it would have had I just had it professionally done in the first place.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I'm just trying to give you heads up on what to expect.

Good luck, and post pictures!

i used this in my 01 about 7 to 8 years ago..it still looks pretty good for that long ago..did have some fading but overall i have been pleased with it..the prep work is the key..i sanded the bed down with 36 grit, washed it out, blew it out with air and then masked it up..it's tough..in doin some recent work in the bed i had to take the grinder to get some of it off to do some welding!!

hey check this stuff out. I just ordered some of it and from what i've seen its a whole lot more durable than the roll on kits. The kit comes with a gun and everything all you need is an air compressor.

don't use herculiner. if you don't have a bed cover the sun fades it then whenever you touch the bed your hands turn black

Yeah i think a flat black would have looked 10x better and probably 10x cheaper.

I used the Duplicolor Bed Armor. Water based so it cleans easier than Herculiner. The biggest thing with DIY liners is prep, prep, and more prep. I sanded the bed down to bare metal and roughed it up really good with scotch brite. Then clean the heck out of it with a fast evaporating solvent. Make sure you tape everything, even if you don't think you will make a mess. I wasn't going to tape my back window because I wasn't going to go that high with the liner, but thought against it, cus I make a mess. I slipped and sent my roller right up the back window, glad I taped it. I did 3 coats. 1 gallon was plenty for that and I have the 5.5 bed. I've abused it with paver's and gravel, no problems so far.
