Exclamation Atermarket Camera on OEM Camera Handle

Well I changed my backup camera to the Tailgate handle. I bought the OEM tailgate handle and then added an aftermarket camera. The had to modify the handle a little though. The OEM camera fits inside the handle, with the aftermarket one it sit outside of the handle and I also had to widen the hole a little, but it works very well and doesn't look that bad.

Changed from this:
Edge Camera $240.00

To this:
Tailgate Handle $109.00
Camera $25.00

Can you post part info? Also, how good is the image quality, especially at night?

Thanks

The handle was 109.00 from Tasca Ford Parts and it is the Black paint to match one. I think they offer one thats already painted to match your truck color but I couldn't find the part number for the handle that matched my truck. The camera I bought was on ebay and it has a 23mm Screw diameter and 41mm L x 29mm Dia on the face. The Diameter of the camera is still wider than the hole on the tailgate handle so you need to widen the hole gradually until the camera fits. The camera is also short in length and I wouldn't go with anything longer than 41mm.

Here is the part number for the handle (Paint to Match)
8L3Z 9943400 BBPTM

Here is the camera view on my head unit (Daytime)

nice, how do you like that camera pointing down like that? How much view do you get with that angle?

I have the same camera, but mine is in the bumper, i drilled out one of the pre existing holes for the reverse sensors and mounted mine in there.
I like being able to view further out, not just the 6 feet behind me.

I may do this, but ive gotten so used to the camera on the bumper that when i parallel park i can back up to within two inches if i desire to do so. I have had people freak out when looking at the screen thinking i was gonna hit, only to get out and notice i still had a good two feet left.
The only downside is i cant use it to hitch a trailer... i cant see the ball.

Great retrofit though.

If you had a hitch on, could you see it with that? Or could you aim the camera different so you could?

Thanks!

I used to have the camera mounted on my license plate and didn't mind it but I switched because of the lift I installed on my truck, now I can see behind me toward the ground which helps with making sure theres nothing behind me that I cant' see. With this camera I can see my hitch and the corners of my bumper.

Have you since replaced the ebay camera for an OEM camera? If so, why? Thanks.

I Really didn't like the camera because it would fog up with the change in temperature and the picture wasn't that great, but I can't say that for all the cameras out there.

Wiring

I love what you've done and felt inspired to do the same. I've been looking everywhere to see if anyone has ever done anything like this because I find it's just too expensive from Ford. I just purchased a camera and handle and the handle is on it's way. My question is, since I have never done anything like this, can you please give a step by step on installation and wiring? I already installed a Pioneer AVIC-D3 and the camera wire is already in the dashboard. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Chris

Where are you folks finding the handle? I have been trying to find one but no luck with any of the online dealers I have contacted or searched the websites for... The closest I can get is the Chromed handle, which I do not want. I am looking to find just the plain black-textured handle with the camera mount.
