Cool New Lighter/radio Mod

Have you ever wanted to turn your radio on and off with having to use your ignition key, or having to wire your radio "HOT" at all times. Well here's the mod for you.

You'll need to go buy a Bosch style 30 amp relay (SPDT) (5 bucks)
You'll also need a 10 amp diode (a 6 amp will work) 1.50
Some misc wire connectors along with some 16-18 ga. hook up wire 3-5 bucks

You'll need to lower the bottom dash panel on you late model F-150,
by removing all of the 7mm and ever the 8mm bolts the lower dash panel with come completely off. When the dash panel is off, you look on the lower front right side of the dash, there is a gray plug connected together right below where the pocket would have been on your lower dash panel. This plug is the the connection for you aux. 12volt port and you cig. lighter on the dash. Uplug this to test to make sure, lighter should not work. In this plug there are 2 black wires, they both are the grounds for both the cig. and the aux. port, you'll have to cut to test to see which one is for the cig. lighter because both of these black wires are connected to the same pin on the gray connector, once you cut the right black wire that grounds the lighter (lighter should not work when gray plug is connected) your in business.

Take the relay turn it over and you'll see the 5 "Male type" spades on the bottom, all are numbered:87, 87a, 86, 85 & 30. Take a jump a wire from terminal #86 over to #87 then connect a wire from #87 to the black wire,
make sure you connect is to the black wire that is connected to the gray plug and not the side of the cut black wire that connects to the back of the lighter.
Then connect the #30 terminal to the other black wire that is connected to the lighter. You'll then need to connect #87A to the gray band side of you diode, and then connect the #85 terminal to the other side of the diode (opposite the side of the gray band).

You'll then need to remove the radio and find the 12volts switched with ignition wire that has 12volts when the ignition is on, this wire will be RED in color on aftermarket stereos. You will then need to cut that RED wire just like you did with the black ground wire, and place the diode inline connecting the red wire back together.

MAKE SURE THAT THE GRAY BAND ON THE DIODE IS CONNECTED TO THE RED WIRE THAT GOES DIRECTLY TO THE RADIO, AND THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DIODE IS CONNECTED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RED WIRE THAT RETURNS INTO THE HARNESS, DASH ETC.
Notice the picture below that the radio is on w/ no key in the ignition and the lighter button is pushed in. The lighter will operate as normal when the ignition is on.
