Question CD player is baking CD's

Have a new F150 with the standard CD player and notice everytime that I play a CD it is really hot when I eject it after a few songs. Anyone else notice this? Could the cause be the units internal lighting?

Me too!

Mine does the same thing. I noticed that while it plays commercial CDs fine, the ones that I created on my computer occaisionally skip. Not predictable at all, but I often wonder if it is the heat. Sometimes the same CD will play fine, other times it skips. Strange.

Mine did the same thing but I did not have to eject. It would just stop playing on its own and say "CD HOT" then if I hit eject or play or anything it would say there was no CD in there. Mine happened noticeably more often when using a burned CD. Ford replaced it then I replaced it.

Talking New AF/FM/CD . . .

Ford will replace your in-dash AF/FM/CD with a new unit that has a small fan built in . . .

Took my dealer about three days to get one in and about 2 minutes to replace it . . .

No problems at all with the new one!

Just called the dealer

I just talked to the dealer. He is investigating the problem. Mine is out of warranty (41K). I'll post a follow-up when he calls me back.

Hey Swampview, do you still have the work invoice and if so a part number for the new CD player that was installed? Thanks!

MN2001F-150,

I feel like a jerk . . . can tell you that the AM/FM/CD was checked out and ordered on 04/13/01 and that I had it installed on 04/28/01 @ 9260 miles - but, I can't tell you the number . . .

I can also tell you that it looks exactly like the 'cooker' but has a small fan on the left side toward the rear!

I'm going to go out and see if I can pull the thing - right after I get back from Foxwood . . . ! Will let you know!

I noticed that a couple of my burned ones warp too... In the middle of winter, I popped one in cold, it played for about 15 seconds, but then stopped... when I ejected it, it had heated up unevenly, so the thing looked more like a frisbee than a CD! (i.e. way warped!) I stuck it back in for a minute but didn't let it play, and once it "pre-heated" all was well again... the heat must be coming up from the bottom half. Maybe I'll see if they can credit me for a MP3 player replacement?

"Oh, that's the nature of it"

My dealer service rep responded that "it's the nature of it?"

I'm not sure if I buy that answer at all. If it's failing to play CDs, heating them up and making them skip, something is wrong.

Ok, looks like I'm going to have to do some discussion about this one. Where do I turn from here?

Hunt

Got the same answer from my dealer. Told him that no other in-dash CD player I've owned has heated CD's up like this. He advised Ford has no replacement CD players that now have a fan. If someone has had theirs replaced, please provide part number, etc... I would hate to ruin a good CD.

Angry Same Problem...same resonse!

I just visited my dealer this morning and they gave me the TSB response. They haven't had one complaint and won't act unless there is a TSB to support it. If you have had your CD player replaced, please get the information to us so we can "bang our monkey" and get these dealers in line.

Thanks swampview

It's hot enough where I'm afraid to eject it and let it sit half out the player for fear it'll start to droop. Have not received the 'CD HOT' message yet.
