thats the problem u pay $40+ on a truck just to realize everything is great instead of the dang sound inside the cab....so the first thing i did was rip out the stock speakers threw in comps in the front and coaxs in the rear, 4 channel 600 watt amp, and 2 skinny 12"s with a 750.1...kept the stock head unit and got way better sound quality i honestly dontknow how diffrent the sony is but i wud say go for a nice decent sq system and u wont be regreting anything later on down the road

Cool 2010 XLT Sound System

I've had my new truck 5 days and the stereo is a BIG disappointment. Not even reasonable sound quality.
I don't have the Sony system w/sub. Just single CD/Mp3 Sirius etc. I'm keeping the Ford HU, but adding:
*Alpine F600 Amp (4 channel 600w)
*Alpine SPR17s 6.5 component speakers x4
*Pioneer 10" low-profile sub
*Pioneer amp (for sub)
Looking forward to greatly enhanced audio next week.

mikemac2010, i like ur mids and highs package, plus the f600 is something u wont be disappointed with!

not to sure about the pioneer 10 when shopping around i heard it was more for midbass, and the sub lacked hitting low...but thats wut i was told, u mite want to look into that depending on wut bass u want to get out of it...heard kicker and rockford were better, jl seems too pricey on their low profile sub.....BEST WISHES on ur setup!

I can't imagine the stock head unit can be made to sound really excellent. Don't the speaker level outs have to be converted to line level? How is that good?

Plus, how does one control equalization? The OEM bass/treble controls and the bass rolloff are problems.

Replacement Audio Setup

Here's what I ended up buying yesterday:

Amp: Alpine PDX-4.100 4x100 Watts RMS

Front Speakers: Alpine SPR-17S Components w/tweeters
110 Watts RMS

Rear Speakers: Alpine SPR-17C Coax 100 Watts RMS

JS Audio CleanSweep CL441DSP OEM Audio Interface Digital EQ. Cleans up factory EQ curve & signal prior to amp.

Total Equipment Cost: $800

Keeping the factory head unit/sirius/mp3 setup.
Don't have Sync on this truck. I'm having the audio gear professionally installed for $500 Oct.28.

Can't wait!

Sub for 2010 F150

Forgot to mention: I'm holding off on the sub for now. May add later. Want to research my options a bit more. Ideal setup for me would be to install a shallow mount sub on the back wall of the cab, with another Alpine PDX amp. I like the PDX digital amps as they're small and run 50% cooler than traditional amplifiers. I need the floor space in the crew area of the cab so can't mount a sub under the seats.

i think kicker even has shallow mount 8s so u cud prolly go with 2 8s and still run them off a pdx amp...and yeah theyre really good amps i just didnt have the funds lol....they work out well in small boxes those subs just poly fill a bit

cujet,
i dont know to much about connecting line levels and such but i just wanted to improve sound quality and the headunit was no rush...my dads owned 4 ford pickups and each have given up on their headunits and thus replacing them, probably why i dint get a new HU..wait till it breaks...as for equalization, i work with what i got ...i just adjust the treble for my tweets and since i got epicenter i have that and bass boost on independant controllers and i have bass on the head unit to only 2 bars...dont ever turn the bass up from the HU itll do that to subs and speakers and big nasty distortion...
