ok not sure if this is possible and it may be a dumb question but here it goes...
Me and my buddies like to tailgate at the football games at my high school and i was wondering if there is anyway i could play my radio w/o draining the battery so quickly. I have 600w amp powereing 2 10's and it sucks the battery down really fast. Is there any way to do this?
you can install a switch that turns on only the headunit, and not all the other accessories on the truck. I have this done, and can flip the switch and turn on the radio without the key being in the truck.
You can also install switches that will turn the amps off. this helps to save power if you are listening, but not wanting to blare the music

second battery
other accessories drain minimal power compared to an amp.....unless your a/c is running or something like that

lol... numbers 3 and 7...those two are the one's i've resorted to. as the day/night goes on though, it gets harder and harder to remember to keep starting the truck every now and then (which is why number 7 is important).
this saturday i'm going to be in a field for about 14 hours tailgating at the PSU game so i know i'm going to definately kill my battery.
My yellow top is going out :[ Only been a year and a half or so. But when they are under a year they are fantastic at what you said.
Another thing you can do, is get one of those accessories for your battery that disconnects the negative terminal I believe when it gets too close to the voltage it needs to start. Very cheap module.
Get a deep cycle battery like an Optima Yellow top. You can play your stereo for hours and your truck will still fire right up.
Even with a Yellow top everytime you deep cycle it you will lose 25% of its capacitance. After the third without a very thorough slow charge its ruined.

I have 2 Optima blue tops in my boat and I can listen to music for a few hours with no issues and I'm running 4 pairs of speakers and a 12" sub running off of 2 amps.
