You may have to cut to get some 6.5" speakers to fit in there.
Certain 6.5s come with adapter plates that will ensure a perfect fit. I know Alpine does this. If you dont want to do any modification to the doors then i'd look at their stuff. Its better than infinity anyways.
to tell you the truth, I think I'd prefer 5 1/2"s anyway (I'm going to have 8" mid bass drivers anyway)..... It's just that I really "have to have" some mid + high seperates which provide a 2ohm load to the amp. This one fact drops my choices from about 9 bazillion, to two or three.
Hey mSaLL, I like Alpines a lot, and in fact, I am going with an Alpine deck, but I've also liked just about every Infinity speaker I've ever heard as well, and as I'm saying, they make the only 2ohm mid + high seperates I've found.
I will keep looking for other 2ohm options in mids + highs though.... and maybe for the Infinities in the series I'm looking at, but in 5 1/2"s....
.....but like I said, I'm still open to other brands..... they just have to provide 2ohm resistence, in order for me to get the full potential out of my RF class D amp.
umm you don't run mids/highs off a class d. That why they make class A for good sound reproduction. D is used for high power efficiency because they are not used for wide frequency amplification. They just amp up a small frequency range really well were a class A amps up a wide frequency range fairly well and does it clean.
Besides the kappas are only 85w.So they don't need much juice at all. Also there's no need to push your amps to their limits, they work better doing less. that would be like maxing out your trucks payload just because it can.
I said > class D.... so I was only "partly right"..... It's actually a class BD amp.... So I guess this means that the mono sub channel is the "D" part, and the other 4 channels are class "B".
Also, I hear you about "maxing out" an amp... or a stereo.... or a truck motor... or whatever, and I fully agree. However, this amp is actually rated for use down to 1ohm, so I'll actually be "taking it easy on it" at 2 ohms.... not to mention, their is also this little knob for "volume control" :-)
Finally, yes, the Kappas are rated at 85wts RMS, and 225 wt peak. Two of the channels from this amp might put out only slightly more than 85 wt RMS, and just slightly less than 225 peak.....
Sounds like a perfect match to me.
Not to mention, in all of my experience with car audio, it always seemed to me, that clipping, frequency intermodulation (I think that's what they call it when a speaker tries to put out too many different frequencies at once, right ?), improper enclosures, etc, blew speakers faster, than excessive wattage. I once blew a pair of 800wt pro series sub woofers with an amp that only put out 150 wt RMS per side (or 300 wt bridged). Later, I hooked the same amp up to a pair of little, light weight 10" subs which were rated at 75 wt RMS, or 125wt peak. Not only were they really loud and clear, but they NEVER blew again, for the 6 or 7 years I pounded on them.
Anyway, after seeing this amp, does this sound more logical / feasible ?
Or, are you one of the guys {the majority} who wants at least 2, 3, or more seperate amps ? Which BTW, is another whole subject, I've discussed recently on stereo forums. No doubt about it; Their are not too many 5 channel amps which really provide enough solid, clean power, everywhere it's needed. What, maybe 3 or 4 ? But if their were only 1, I'd bet on my RF.
IMPO, the only reason 5 channel amps are not more popular {which would result in a lot more options} is because SOOO many young guys want a 9 bazillion wt sub woofer amp, for there four 15"s..... while they only want / need a 40wt x 2 for their pair of crappy coaxials :-) Balance ? What's that ? :-) LOL
Maybe for playing actual music ? What a concept, huh ? :-) LOL
Anyway, the bottom line is, I know what I had before (the equipment, and how it was set up) and I can't help but think that the setup I'm building this time will be "at least, as nice" which would be fantastic..... But if it's even cleaner, more balanced, and a little louder too, that will all just be icing on the cake.
