IPOD connection for 2004 Lariat

In reviewing the threads about hooking up a IPOD to my stereo is not possible. What I couldn't find was a solution other than buying a head unit for a 2006-2007.
Does anyone have any solutions other than this?
many thanks,
Mike

Try this.

http://www.amazon.com/Metra-AntennaW.../dp/B000LUDFXI

I am actually planning on installing it tonight. Someone one here recomended it to me. The only thing I dont like it the on/off switch. I just dont want to drill a whole in my dash. So I will probably end up turning it on and leaving it inside the dash. Plan on doing a write up for the install as well.

if you want to go with something a little fancier, alpine has a sweet system that you put on your dash (like a portable gps) so you dont have to look down at your ipod to change songs and stuff
its also an fm transmitter
buttttt fancier=more expensive

http://www.brandmotion.com/ipoddock.php if you have the over head rail system,

http://brandmotion.com/ipod.php if you don't.

I've had phone dealings with brandmotion a couple of times, always top notch customer service. I placed an order just today for some components, I can keep you up to date about the results if you like, but to me, these seem like the sleekest iPod to OEM radio integration available.

If you want to keep the stock radio, then you need an 05-up unit that has MP3 printed on the front of it. The MP3 ready decks are the ones that are capable of ipod control with an aftermarket unit.

I'm not positive, but I think that only the 6 disc and audiophile decks in 05 were mp3 ready. The single disc was not.
In 06 the single disc was added, and in 07 the antenna connection changed and you will need an adapter to plug your old style ant into the new decks.

Just find a unit that is the same as what you have and has MP3 on it and you'll be golden.

I have a 6 Disc HU but I dont have Aux Inputs in the rear. Later models may have them, and I know the Audiophile units do as well. Problem with switching to a newer head unit is that is can be a little more money than some people want to spend. Me being one of them. You might be able to find one at a decent price at a junk yard, key word being might.

Mikelmco: I installed the Metra Adapter last night. Only played with it for a little but it works great. Unlike the FM broadcasters you get at walmart that can get very staticy if used on a station that has some kinda of reception on it. This metra adapter will completely over power any station. It uses 88.5 or 88.9. I would have to say the volume coming through is a little on the low side, but nothing that would deter me from keeping it. Hopefully I will have the wright up for the install next week. Its really easy, just wanted to contribute I guess.

You have the Audiophile? Then I think there should be some Aux inputs in the rear for the HU. Not %100 sure though. Made a six hour drive today and used it most of the way. I have to say it works really well. Like I said before, the volume is a little low. With the Ipod set at 3/4 volume I had to turn my radio up to about 3/4 volume to get it to normal listening volume for me. Might be a little different for you. Nothing that would deter me from recomending it to anyone, but would deffinitely want make you aware of it. I also set the EQ on my Ipod to "Bass Boost" because it sounded a little high in the Tremble area.

I have an 06 w/o the mp3 single cd, I bought a product from peripheral that allowed to connect the ipod to the stereo and as a bonus i got the HD reciver also. everything is controlled through the sotck head unit, I love it. it dose not specify an 04 but i dont think there is a diffrence between and 04 and 05 so it should work, best bet is to check with the dealer and see what part number the 04 is and what part number and 05 is that should help you out, ONE thing i forgot to mention the headunit must have an AUX button.

FM modulator

I came across your question and I am curious to see from someone what the out come is for these devices. Can you tell me if the frequency response is good or not? I tried the built in FM transmitter on my sirius sat reciever but the band was narow and it sucked. It was flat like AM radio. Please let me know how a modulator worked for you.

Thanks .................. Rick

I have had it installed now for about 3 weeks. I have been meaning to get all the pics together so I can get the write up written. From using it I can say this: The reception is excelent. There is no static whatsoever. When turned on, it will completely block the incoming frequency, and if an audio source is connected to it, play it statc free. I will say this though, like all FM modulators I have used, the volume from it is low. With my Ipod at 1/2 to 3/4 volume, I usually have to put the volume on the truck at about 3/4 to get the sound to my usually listening volume. But for how cheap this is, compared to getting a new HU or a device that plugs into the factory harness, I cant complain. Best thing is, it is universal, so when I can talk the wife into letting me get a Pioneer D3 or something, I can install it in her car.
