Snow Plow Help

Hey guys,
I have a 8' fisher mm1 plow on my 350. I just bought the truck last oct, and it came with the plow so I dont know much abt it, but id guess its at least 10 years old. I had a few problems with it and ended up changing the wire harness, other than that its fine. However, It looks like crap. Rusted and dented, just nasty. I sanded it down and rattle canned the hell outts it last year, but its looks just as bad again. Any ideas on a more permanant fix? Would a body shop be able to refinish it? Also, ive seen plastic covers for the blades on other plows, do they have one for fisher?

One a different note, is there anything I need to do to the plow as far as maintenance goes before this season? Oil or something? hoses? Lube anyhting or check connections? Also, what parts or products should i keep on hand or in the truck? Sorry for all the questions, Im new at this among many other things! Thanks for your help.

Best bet would be to contact Fisher Plows directly or a Fisher dealer for guidance

well it depends on how much are you willing to spend

remember, you gotta spend money to make money

as far as painting goes a powder coat would hold up best - but road debret is going to take a toll on it regaurdless, so i would just invest in a good air compressor and an air paint sprayer and learn how to maintain it, a good sand blast and prime job will last a season.

things we always kept on hand are hydrolic fliud and replacement hoses and what ever wrenchs you will need, and find a supplyer for the pump and motor so you can get it back up with in 24 hrs

everyone hits the curbs and blows hose's so be ready for it

and the most inportent thing is insurance - you will find this out the first light pole you hit ($1800.00 easy)

Lol, yeah, Ive actually been plowing for years, and luckily havent hit a pole yet. I just havent ever really worked on the plows I use being as they were company vehicles with brand new plows. So I have to at least get the basics down, and get my plow looking half decent!

Here is what my yearly routine was when I had my plow. I never painted my plow as long as I owned it but I did wash it every time I was done with it before I took it off the truck.

Clean the contacts on my hook ups and coat the with dielectric grease
Change the fluid
Change all the hoses
Replace the bolt that holds the chain on the A frame

Look up POR15. http://www.por15.com/ They have it in spray cans now. Wile it will eventually scratch it will last a lot longer than ordinary paint.

Most importantly is hydrolic fluid, wrenches and spare hoses. As far as the painting goes, that is just something that is going to be needed year after year. The salt and ice melt will tear the plow up no matter what. Also when you start moving the snow into large snow banks, the snow will eventually get in the frame of the plow. It is a good idea to keep knocking that stuff off so it wont freeze on the hoses, gaskets, and bolts. Also keep a hammer with you incase you dent the plow you can straighten it out to a degree so you are still making good passes with the plow. We all know how bad a bent plow pushes snow. Even subtle bends are a killer.

u want to make sure u keep plenty of hydrolic fluid in it, and make sure u drain it once a year too keep water outta it becaues water will freze up ur hydrolics, and we have a snow plow on our 250 and every three to four year we buy the meyers yellow plow paint and put it on really heavy and it works great you might want to sand it down and use the meyers plow blad paint we paint the hydrolic pump with itoo but for the hook up monunts and thing we use rustolium gloss black spray pain and it looks great
