Ford sercuity alarm trouble...

Well I'm computerless so this is via my Palm so I'll make it short and sweet. I'm having trouble with my Ford alarm (the upgrade one that actually chirps and has motion sensors) and can't seem to get the dang thing to arm. I've taken my dash apart, checked fuses, messsed with everything, no dice. Most I've gotten it to do is chirp and unchirp but still no arm. It did arm one time and go off but then stopped after that. My mechanic said he's not to familiar with them but could look to fix it (since it stopped working after he took the dash out to replace the heater core) if I had a manual for it. No manual. So I'm just trying on my down time.

So to my question, if I go to a junk yard and find a new alarm module, could I just try it or are they vin locked?

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix or reset the one I have now I'm more than open to any ans all suggestions. I'm just stumped right now and so was my certified Ford mechanic.

P.S.- if I take the fuse out, it chirps, then goes off when I put it back in, then I have to turn the truck on to make it stop. it then does a series of about 15 chirps and stops. Still doesn't work after that.

Thanks

-Lincoln

I had a similar problem with mine. The alarm stopped working but the keyless entry and chirping still worked. Well come to find out I put it in valet mode via the ignition switch. On mine if you put in the key and turn it to ON (don't start the engine) and the OFF quickly three times in a row it would activate valet mode. Just do the same thing to take it out of valet mode and back into alarm mode.

Also, if you do find another module in a junk yard, make sure it's the exact same model number. Different models can use different wires in the harness to do different things. Otherwise you might let the smoke out of your wires

Hope this helps you out...

Also, finding one at a JY might be a long shot. I wasn't even aware that these were available back then. Not that I am some sort of Ford guru, but I am sure it would have been discussed on here more often if it was more common. Sounds like it just needs to get removed.

Thanks guys. I'll try the valet thing. I just would really like to keep the alarm. It seemed like a very good unit when it was fully funtional and I don't have the cash to spend on a new system.

Yetti, it was an upgrade option that a lot of people didn't even know was available. It would not be installed at the factory, your dealership had to install it if you wanted. Thus they would make more money by selling you one without it due to the laor to put the system in. I'd bet people weren't even told about the system 80% of the time.

I got it fixed. Ended up not having to try the valet mode. What did it for me (and anyone else having problems can try) is taking out the 2 20amp fuses and replacing them in a different sequence than what I was. I knew that one fuse when taken out and put in would make the alarm go off. So that's what I'd been doing. This morning, I took both fuses out, put the other fuse in (not the one that made it go off). Silent. I expeted that. I then put the other fuse, the one that had normally set off the alarm. Silent. Not expeted. But the red indicator light then started to blink fairly quickly. So I wondered....could it be that easy. Sure deal, everything is fully functional again. Thanks for the responses guys and I hope this ends up helping someone. If anyone has any questions about what's under their dash I an help with that now too...I had a baby blue color pencil that I never knew Ford put in. Haha.
